Cullingworth nestles in Yorkshire's wonderful South Pennines where I once was the local councillor. These are my views - on politics, food, beer and the stupidity of those who want to tell me what to think or do. And a little on mushrooms.

100 years after its birth, this can't be said too often...
It is astonishing that in 2017, anyone can still openly call themselves a
socialist in polite society and be treated with more respect than if
they called themselves a fascist.
For example, the French Socialists are a peaceful, responsible, mainstream party of the European centre-left. You may not like them or agree with them, but it's a ridiculous slur to pretend they are morally equivalent to fascists.
If you substituted "communist" for "socialist" you might be on firmer ground, but as it happens very few politicians describe themselves as communist nowadays.

This is abject nonsense.

Iain,
Why bother to label yourself a 'communist', with all that entails, when there's a comfortable home for you in the modern Labour Party?
