I know, we'll be told it's "anti-Israel" not anti-Jew. But wishing the end of Israel is an awful long way from disagreeing with the policies of its government.

Now it's the great Jewish conspiracy - the "machine":

Saying that atrocities in Gaza were down to "the Jews" was anti-semitic. Saying that the only reason he got into trouble was because of some vast machine compounds David Ward's 'mistake'. The truth is he got into trouble for saying that "the Jews" hadn't learned from The Holocaust.

I'm pretty sure David doesn't mean to be anti-semitic but the effect is the same - maybe he needs some awareness training?

I've no time at all for David Ward MP - I recall when he accused the then Director of Regeneration in Bradford of racism in a letter he bunged through doors in Barkerend. And when he accused me of lying in a speech to Council - when I wasn't present to respond.

However, today - when we remember the evil of Hitler's genocide - David Ward launches what seems to be a crass, anti-semitic attack:

"Having visited Auschwitz twice - once with my family and once with local schools - I am saddened that the Jews, who suffered unbelievable levels of persecution during the Holocaust, could within a few years of liberation from the death camps be inflicting atrocities on Palestinians in the new State of Israel and continue to do so on a daily basis in the West Bank and Gaza."

The Jews, David? All the Jews?

And it seems, when asked to explain, David digs his hole deeper:

“It appears that the suffering by the Jews has not transformed their views on how others should be treated”.

Oh dear. The Jews, David? All the Jews?

In which David Ward MP is revealed as a bit of a numpty

Commenting on Westfield and specifically on the remarks to the Sunday Times of Stephen Lowy from that business, David has this to say:

“It’s regrettable a highly-paid executive would engage in such loose talk. But fortunately I don’t believe his remarks reflect the position of the company.”

So who is Stephen Lowy?

Steven Lowy was appointed Managing Director of Westfield Holdings Limited in 1997 and currently serves as Co-Chief Executive Officer of the Westfield Group. 

More to the point, Stephen is the son of this man, Frank Lowy:

Frank Lowy is the Chairman and co-founder of the Westfield Group.  Having served as Westfield's Chief Executive Officer for over 50 years, Mr Lowy assumed a non- executive role in May 2011.

So the son of the main man - and a main board director - says that Westfield might want to sell their Bradford "development" and David Ward, the local MP doesn't "believe his remarks".

One has to smile!
