Google and tax - well said Mr Schmidt!

****

A new blog hero:

“We pay lots of taxes; we pay them in the legally prescribed ways,” he said. “I am very proud of the structure that we set up. We did it based on the incentives that the governments offered us to operate.”

The company isn’t about to turn down big savings in taxes, he said.

“It’s called capitalism,” he said. “We are proudly capitalistic. I’m not confused about this.”

It's us politicians who set the rules and the rate not the taxpayer - business or consumer. If you've a problem with those rules or those rates, address your concerns to the cause not the beneficiary.

Oh dear! You and I now have a vast difference of opinion, upon which I shall comment over at my place. You are of course most welcome to visit.

Respectfully David, Mr Cooke is implying just that - that he is responsible, not Google. While parliament determines the tax system, the fault is with parliament, not the company making use of those rules.

However yes, we should be looking at parliament to hugely reduce the tax burden - such as scrapping corporation tax and NI entirely to encourage business to the UK in exchange for, say, closing the department of business and environment.

@Nick

If you care to pop over to my place you will then see why I have a difference of opinion.

It is the fact that Mr. Cooke and his ilk are responsible and that we, the people have no input that I complain about.

C'mon, whose side you on here?
